The far southeast corner of Oregon consists of four counties: Baker, Grant, Harney and Malheur. These four counties make up 28.3% of the state, 1.5% of the population, and are home to some of Oregon’s highest hunger, poverty and unemployment rates. Thirty-three of the 34 communities with schools in THE FORGOTTEN CORNER OF OREGON offer only four days of classes each week.
KIDS-HEAL is the culmination of my for-profit and non-profit experiences. My work as a design and marketing consultant with clients ranging from MOMA, Disney, Silver Palate Food to YSL, and even a party or two for Microsoft, combined with my nonprofit work in NYC, LA, Berlin, Argentina, Munich and Nepal has given me a broad field of first-hand experiences to draw from. I bring the best of who I am through the lessons I have learned to create a new way of learning that is an engaging combination of analog/face-to-face experiences and springboard/follow-up online opportunities.
KIDS-HEAL would not be here without the faith and funding of two very special and beautifully crazy ladies in Portland, and a third who has surfaced to help us. These three women are the star cast members on my new nonprofit version of the Housewives of Portland.
Special thanks to Heather Killough, my #1 crazy lady, her sister in spirit and support Jeannie McGuire Coleman, and our newly initiated crazy lady Carrie Lawliss of the Harboutron Foundation.
KIDS-HEAL invites you to join us in our mission to improve the creative, physical and emotional health of children in the Forgotten Corner of Oregon. Your financial support will enable us to continue replicating our mission throughout Southeast Oregon. All of our in-classroom and online lessons are free to schools and anyone who wants to log on and join us. We believe in free access to arts+health learning, no matter where you are.
